Cameron O'Connor, LCSW

I am passionate about therapies grounded in the here-and-now, and strongly believe that we all have the power to change our circumstances and shape our lives with focused, mindful efforts. I often blend this present-moment focus with traditional insight-oriented psychotherapy, so that the roots of problems are identified, processed, and overcome in tandem with the identification and implementation of effective strategies to change the here-and-now. As such, I am able to help clients process and heal from the past, while simultaneously helping clients become empowered for their present and future.

My experience includes work with both adolescents and adults, treating issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, sexuality, gender transitioning, family conflicts, and more. I have specialized training in several effective therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Somatic Experiencing, a highly effective trauma treatment protocol. I believe that everyone is entitled to happiness and self-determination, and have oriented my professional development around implementation of the best and most effective therapy modalities available.

You may be wondering how I got to where I am today. After graduating with a bachelor's in psychology and working in the field of mental health for 6 years, I attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. I finished the program at the top of my class with a Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree. Attending this renowned university allowed me to train with the top professionals from around the globe, including therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, researchers, and others. However, my most valuable experience has come from working with people one-on-one. Since I received my graduate degree, I have spent thousands of hours helping clients achieve their personal goals. I bring empathy, passion, and my authentic self to every client session and am proud to have had the privilege of being trusted to help my clients. Many of these hours were spent working with young people - adolescents, teenagers, and young adults. Working with these amazing younger folks left a lasting impact on me, and I vowed to ensure that my services would always be available for younger clients. While many agencies and group practices turn young clients away, I have made a focused effort of building a team that can help people as young as 12 years old through our counseling services.

Today, I am married to my wife Morgan and we run Harborlight Counseling together. We have worked to assemble a team of the best clinicians we could find. I truly hope to reach any client who is struggling with any problem, and I am confident we will be able to help anyone feel better.

I am skilled in working with: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Substance use, Sexuality, Gender transitioning, School issues, Relationships, Family conflict, Stress management, Gaming / internet addiction, Life transitions.
